This is the entrance hall of Tignanello, which of course means a level of material quality, craftsmanship, and size that most of us would immediately accept as a home. Tenuta Tignanello is the crown jewel of the Antinori estates, where grape growing has been documented as early as 1346. The blend consists of 90 percent Sangiovese, with the remainder being Cabernet Sauvignon. It ages for one year in fine French barriques, followed by another year in the bottle. The quality barrels bring forth smoky, chocolaty, and cardamom aromas, complemented by sweet, ripe fruits, black cherries, red currants, and blackberries, enhanced by leathery, balsamic, and soy sauce notes. On tasting, it is charming, juicy, and subtly spicy. It is free from excess, and despite the sweet, ripe characteristics and fuller body, it is not sluggish; one can rely on the acidity of Sangiovese even in warmer vintages. The finish is long, with mature tannins.
