Located on the left bank of the Rhône, about twenty kilometers north of Valence, Crozes Hermitage is the longest vineyard in the northern Rhône Valley. In the south, the soil consists of river-glacial sediments and gravel terraces or loess from the Rhône. Wine production in the southern part of the appellation developed in the 20th century at the expense of fruit growing. This area produces aromatic, fruity wines.
