Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, or as it is commonly referred to, is one of the important wines of Tuscany. It is named after the picturesque town of Montepulciano, but it is primarily made from the Sangiovese grape variety. A characteristic of the Montepulciano area is that it produces very mineral wines. The Sangiovese from this region is less full-bodied than that from Montalcino but is much more mineral-driven. The Poliziano winery is one of the most important producers in the wine region.
