If not the most highly rated vineyard in the Thibault Liger-Belair range, this is the wine that has most associated its name with the years. Of Nuits-Saint's 178 hectares, a particularly large part, 147 hectares, is premier cru. Strangely, there are no grand cru vineyards on the map, but the reclassification of Les-Saint-Georges, known as the best area in the village, is still a matter of debate. This is being fought for by Thibault himself, who is the largest owner of the 7.5 hectare vineyard with almost two hectares. If there is to be a 34th grand cru vineyard in Burgundy, there is a good chance it will be this one. It is a rich and bright wine-growing area. Fruit, spices, soil, saffron and mushrooms are always present. Planted in 1944, the 2.1 hectares of vines were harvested by skilled hands, 40% of the bunches were whole in the fermenting vats, the rest was berried. A finely tuned, complex Burgundy with an elegant style. Dark fruit, precise proportions, medium body, deep fruit flavours. Like a good story, this wine decomposes, opens up, reveals new layers over time.
