In 1997, Vega Sicilia founded the Pintia winery in the Toro wine region, which is where this 100% Tempranillo comes from. Pintia is perhaps Vega Sicilia's most challenging estate. The local grape varieties, especially Tinta de Toro (a stronger, more characterful version of Tempranillo), as well as brutal temperature fluctuations and drought create conditions that require constant adaptation. Despite the technical challenges, the result is always impressive and lovable. Although the wine region can be considered continental due to the extremes, the wine is thoroughly Mediterranean. After manual harvesting, the grapes are stored in a cold room for 12 hours to preserve freshness and aromas, followed by further cluster and berry selection. Cold maceration is carried out for 5 days before fermentation, and malolactic fermentation takes place 100% in barrels. It is aged for 12 months in French and American oak.
